TERRE HAUTE, Ind – At the Terre Haute City Council meeting Thursday evening the council voted to take the next step forward on a new convention center downtown.
The council voted 8-1 to vacate 8th street from Wabash to Cherry to make way for the convention center and a planned hotel.
Project leaders said the convention center plan would have been dead if the council did not vote to close the road.
Councilman Todd Nation was the lone vote against, he said he was not convinced that the street needed to be closed to build the project.
