TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — The man known as the “American Taliban” has been released from the federal prison in Terre Haute.
38-year-old John Walker Lindh was captured on a battlefield in Afghanistan in November 2001.
Lindh who is originally from California, has spent more than 17 years in prison after pleading guilty to providing support to the Taliban.
Lindh’s plea deal called for a 20-year sentence, but he’s getting out a few years early for good behavior.
A judge recently imposed additional restrictions on Lindh’s post-release supervision, including monitoring of his internet use.
