TERRE HAUTE, Ind – Holocaust survivor and Terre Haute resident Eva Kor passed away today (7/4/19) just after 7:00 a.m. local time in Krakow, Poland at the age of 85.
CANDLES Holocaust Museum said that Kor was hosting the annual museum trip to Poland.
According to information from CANDLES, she and her twin sister, Miriam, were the sole survivors of her immediate family during the holocaust.
Her two sisters, her mother, and father were killed by the Nazis at Auschwitz.
She and her twin sister Miriam were put through horrific and inhumane experiments by Nazi doctor Josef Mengele.
After being freed she eventually married and lived in Israel where she served in the army.
She then later moved from Tel Aviv to Terre Haute and had two children.
Kor then became an outspoken advocate for peace, love and forgiveness.
She founded the CANDLES Holocaust Museum in Terre Haute to further those objectives and to make sure that people remembered what happened during the holocaust..
CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center will be closed until Tuesday, July 9th, at 10:00am EST in honor of Eva.
Visitors will be welcome then to pay their respects.
Information about a public memorial service will be released at a future date.
