TERRE HAUTE, Ind – Terre Haute police report the passing of K9 Luca #11. Luca was a Belgian Malinois and trained in Holland as a Patrol, as well as Narcotic Detection K-9.
Luca had many apprehensions in his career but the area where he excelled the most was in narcotic detection having been responsible for locating over 20 lbs of Methamphetamine over the course of his career.
On a traffic stop in 2018, Luca located 17 lbs of methamphetamine which was the largest methamphetamine seizure in Vigo County History.
In 2014 Luca located over 4 lbs of psychedelic mushrooms which was one of the largest seizures for this type of narcotic in the country.
On Aug 6, 2018 Sgt. Loudermilk who was Luca’s handler, decided it was time to retire after a long battle with spinal issues.
On September 16th Luca, passed away due to progressing issues with his spine and back hips.
Luca’s memorial service will also be held Thursday September 26th at Cross Tabernacle starting at 10:00 a.m.
