BRAZIL, Ind – The 2019 Brazil Mayors Ride is being called a big success.

Proceeds benefit the Clay County Humane Society Rescue and Adoption Center. The no kill shelter also provides medical care to those in the facility.

Mayor Brian Wyndham said that the shelter performs the work that others wont’.

In the past the Ride has raised as much as $14,000. The goal for 2019 was $20,000 but that goal was surpassed.  With the help of area business and the sale of event t-shirts, the Ride raised more than $23,000 with more money coming in daily.

Michelle Cannava of the Clay County Shelter said that they are beyond overcrowded and is currently running at more than double capacity.

She says that more adoptions would help but they want to make sure that the animals are going to a good home. Those who want to adopt have to fill out an application and sometimes they will perform a home visit before an adoption is approved.
