SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Illinois Department of Public Health reports that a third Illinois resident has died after being hospitalized with a vaping-related lung injury.
Officials have not released the age of the victim or other details about the death citing privacy concerns.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports 1,888 confirmed and probable vaping cases have been reported in 49 states, with 38 deaths reported in 24 states.
Health officials say that 166 people in Illinois, ranging in age from 13 to 75 years old, have experienced lung injuries after using e-cigarettes or vaping.
