VIGO COUNTY, Ind. – The Vigo County School Board met Monday night at the West Vigo Elementary School.  Few residents decided to attend the meeting while several watched the live stream online.

The big topic last night was how the start of the 2020 school year will look in the fall.

The coronavirus pandemic has changed many things and that has affected the financial situation of the corporation.

For the past year, the Vigo County School Corporation has been taking a close look at their student enrollment and finances. It is hoped that enrollment will be consistent, but state officials want that some parents might choose to keep their children at home.  Current enrollment is 13,622.

The board is looking at providing Chromebooks to grades 3-7 so that E-learning could be an option if COVID-19 would pose a need to close schools again.  The new computers would be paid for through a bond issue that would also be used for building maintenance.

There will be another school board meeting on July 13th. Superintendent Rob Haworth said they will be discussing their financial status even further at that meeting and what they will do moving forward.

The school corporation is also seeking the opinions of parents and caregivers on how students should return to school in the fall.  They are conducting an online survey.  You can take that survey here.

A video of the of the meeting is below.  There are audio problems early in the video but it does get somewhat better later in the meeting.
