TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Vigo County has been seeing a slight rise in COVID cases over the last week, says the county health department. They say more people have been having to go to the hospital for COVID related symptoms and that it is primarily younger, unvaccinated people that are doing so.
Vigo County Health Commissioner Dr. Darren Brucken says the majority of people going to the hospital in the county are in their 40’s. He fears that many in this age group in Vigo County are skeptical of getting a COVID shot.
Meanwhile, COVID hospitalization rates around the state are the highest they’ve been since mid-February.
The latest State Health Dept. update shows Indiana hospitals treating 955 people for coronavirus as of Monday. That’s the highest level since hospitals had 966 COVID-19 patients on Feb. 17. But, the state’s daily average of coronavirus deaths has remained below 10 since mid-March.
