Brazil, In. – Brazil City Firefighters will get a new contract that mirrors the pay Brazil City Police receive, if the contract is approved by the firefighters’ union. In the past, firefighters had to work 15 years to reach the highest pay tier. The contract approved by the City Council on Wednesday night, will make it possible for a firefighter to receive $51,815 per year in just five years. The current starting pay for a firefighter is $38,000. Mayor Brian Wyndham said the change was being made to retain firefighters instead of seeing them leave for other fire departments.
