West Lafayette, In. – A Purdue University insect expert has a warning for us… beware of a newly arrived ant that can leave you with a painful sting. The Asian Needle Ant has been found in southern states such as Florida and Georgia for a few years now, but it has now been found in the Evansville area, and that marks the ant’s furthest known northern reach. For those who are hyper-allergic to insect stings, it could be lethal, but for most people, it will just be very painful if bitten. They say because the ant can infest homes, its ability to survive the cold weather is enhanced.
