Riley, In. .–Three Indiana State University Football Players were killed in a crash Sunday morning.
The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened at about 1:30 on State Road 46 at Main Street in Riley. The car had gone off the road and hit a tree. It also caught on fire.
“Two of the occupants were able to be freed from the vehicle and were transported for medical treatment with serious injuries. Unfortunately, the driver and two other occupants were pronounced deceased on the scene. Several agencies responded to assist with the scene,” said Vigo County Sheriff John Plasse in a news release sent out Sunday.
Indiana State University President Dr. Deborah J. Curtis said this is a terrible tragedy.
“As we are waiting on additional details from authorities investigating this accident, our hearts go out to the families and friends of the students involved,” said Curtis on Sunday.
The ISU women’s soccer match scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Stadium was postponed to a later date because of the crash.
Counseling services are being made available for students, faculty, and staff.
