During the stop, the trooper smelled weed and could see what police call “marijuana products” in the passenger seat. Police searched the car and found around one pound of weed, along with 60 grams of cocaine, 96 Xanax tablets and 76 Adderall tablets.
The driver, later identified as 24-year-old Daniel New of Colorado was arrested and taken to the LaPorte County Jail.

Later that same day, the same trooper with Indiana State Police tried to pull over a gray SUV around 4 o’clock in the afternoon, but the driver refused to stop and the chase was on. The driver, later identified as 28-year-old Michael Lopez of Illinois, made his way to State Road 49, where he crashed near the Indiana Dunes. Lopez was arrested and taken to the LaPorte County Jail.
Inside of Lopez’s car, police found around 17 pounds of weed and about 10-thousand dollars in cash. He’s charged with Dealing Marijuana, Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana, and Reckless Driving.
