Convicted felon in possession of two handguns

LAPORTE COUNTY –  On Thursday at approximately 11 a.m., a trooper working along I-94 near the U.S. 20 exit to Laporte/Michigan City, stopped a 2007 GMC Yukon for speeding and following too closely.

During the traffic stop, the trooper developed probable cause for a search of the vehicle.  During that search, the trooper discovered two handguns in the center console along with 50 grams of marijuana. The driver, Darrell N. Moore, 37, from Roseville, Minnesota, was placed in custody. Moore is a convicted violent felon through two different states. Moore was then transported to the LaPorte County Jail where he is charged with the following offenses:

  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon- Level 4 Felony
  • Carrying a Handgun Without a Permit by a Convicted Felon- Level 5 Felony
  • Possession of Marijuana- Class B Misdemeanor
