Fleeing car leads to arrests

BRAZIL-Clay County Deputies arrested two men, one on drug charges, following a high speed pursuit in the county.

Early Sunday morning, a Deputy saw a passenger car driving above the speed limit on a county road in Van Buren Township.

When the Deputy’s car approached the passenger car, the driver began accelerating. At that point, the Deputy turned on his red and blue emergency lights and siren.

The car driver led the Deputy on a chase into Jackson Township.

The Deputy saw items thrown from the car in Jackson Township and shortly after the passenger car stopped on a rural county road.

The driver, Charles Moran, 40, of Brazil, had outstanding warrants out of Clay County.

Moran was booked into the Clay County Jail and preliminarily charged with Resisting Law Enforcement, Level 6 Felony, and for his outstanding warrants.

A passenger inside the vehicle, Joe Poorman, 40, of Brazil, was also arrested and preliminarily charged with Possession of Amphetamine, Level 4 Felony; Maintaining a Common Nuisance, Level 6 Felony; and Possession of Paraphernalia, Class C Misdemeanor.
