Sullivan, Indiana – March went out like a lion Friday night as a line of Thunderstorms moved through the Wabash Valley producing heavy rain, lightening, hail and tornado’s. A EF3 tornado with peak winds reaching 155mph touched down in Crawford County Illinois killing three people and injuring at least 8 more. Crawford County officials said 60 to 100 families were displaced. The heaviest damage in Crawford County was in New Hebron, near the Route 1/Route 33 Junction and the Robinson Municipal Airport. The Lincoln Trail College’s Crisp Center was destroyed according to school officials. The tornado continued on an easterly path moving into Sullivan County, Indiana where it slammed into the city of Sullivan leaving three dead, and at least 200 structures destroyed or damaged. Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb visited Sullivan Saturday afternoon to see first-hand the tornado damage and declared a disaster emergency for Sullivan. According to Ted Funk of the Indianapolis office of The National Weather Service they estimate the tornado was on the ground for approximately 8 miles in Sullivan County. At this time they don’t know the length of time it was on the ground in Crawford County.
