ST. BERNICE — When numerous reports came in about reckless driving and suspicious activity, the Sheriff’s Office began focused patrols.
On the evening of April 8, deputies were traveling northbound on SR 71 when they observed a white pick-up truck turn southbound onto SR 71 from Broadway St.
The pick-up truck, later discovered to be driven by Chad N. Brooks, 46, of Marshall, IL, increased speed in excess of 50 mph in a 30 mph zone. Deputies immediately turned to follow Brooks, activated their emergency lighting, and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Brooks did not stop and speeds eventually increased to 108 mph.
After a brief chase, Brooks came to a stop just north of Blanford on SR 71. After Brooks was taken into custody, signs of intoxication were observed. Brooks was read the Indiana Implied Consent Warning and he refused to submit to a chemical test.
Brooks was transported to the Vermillion County Jail and booked in on the following charges:
Resisting Law Enforcement – with a vehicle (Level 6 Felony)
Criminal Reckless Driving (C Misd)
OVWI – Refusal (C Misd)
OVWI – Endangerment (A Misd)
Brooks has since been released following a mandatory sobering period and posting a $10,000.00 bond with 10% allowed.
