BRAZIL — The city will receive $227,842 from the Community Crossings Grant, attorney Traci Orman said during Wednesday’s meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety.
Orman had received notification of the award shortly before the meeting.
The Community Crossings grant will help pave Pinckley Street from State Road 59 east to Murphy Avenue, Orman said.
Construction should soon begin on the new splash pad at Forest Park, near the swimming pool.
The Petersen Co., LLC submitted the most responsive and responsible bid of $658,000, which was substantially lower than the other two bidders. The bids were opened on Feb. 22nd.
The contract was awarded to Peterson Co. contingent on the company submitting paperwork which Orman said did not affect them being the best responsible bidder.
“I believe their bid was substantially in conformance,” Orman said.
The project engineer questioned lack of a cover page and drug testing plan of employees submitted in a way the engineer expected, Orman said. She added the company is working on many other projects in the state, including a space in Northview High School and the LEAAP Center on Jackson Street.
The Petersen Co. has an office in Brazil and other locations.
A basketball goal will be relocated near the walking track before construction on the splash pad begins.
