Man wanted on nationwide warrant arrested by Clay County deputies

BRAZIL — A man wanted on a nationwide extradition warrant was charged with drug possession after a chase through Clay and Vigo counties, said Clay County Sheriff Brison Swearingen Monday.

During the month of April detectives with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office conducted a narcotics investigation into the distribution of methamphetamine by Jason Lane. During the month-long investigation. detectives were able to purchase approximately 60 grams (.13 pound) of methamphetamine from Lane. Detectives also were informed that Lane had a nationwide extradition warrant for a Parole Violation.

Early Saturday, Clay County Sheriff’s Deputies were on patrol in central Clay County, Jackson Township. A deputy observed a sport utility vehicle traveling west on Interstate 70. Deputies observed that vehicle had faulty equipment. Deputies attempted to get the driver to stop. Instead, the driver lead deputies through Clay County and into Vigo County.

During the course of that pursuit, the driver and passenger threw items onto the Interstate from inside the vehicle. The vehicle finally came to a stop on Interstate 70 and both occupants were taken into custody without further incident.

Deputies discovered illegal substances and paraphernalia inside the vehicle during the investigation.

The driver of that vehicle was identified as 49-year-old Jason Lane of Indianapolis. Lane was transported and booked into the Clay County Jail and preliminarily charged with: Dealing Methamphetamine – Level 2 Felony; Possession of Methamphetamine – Level 3 Felony; Resisting Law Enforcement – Level 6 Felony; Obstruction of Justice – Level 6 Felony; Possession of Marijuana – B Misdemeanor; Possession of Paraphemalia – C Misdemeanor; and  Parole Warrant violation.

The passenger of the vehicle was identified as 48-year-old Tiffany Duke of Greencastle. Duke was preliminarily charged with:
Possession of Methamphetamine level 6 Felony; Obstruction of Justice Level 6 Felony; and Possession of Marijuana B Misdemeanor. Law enforcement agencies assisting during the pursuit were: Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, Terre Haute Police Department and the
West Terre Haute Police Department.
