BRAZIL – The Clay County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing to consider filing a Petition with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) seeking authority to establish a Regional Sewer District (RSD).
The meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at the Lewis Township Fire Department, 6440 W. Public Road, Coalmont, Indiana 47845.
The primary purpose of the RSD is to address an Agreed Order issued by IDEM for discharge of untreated and unpermitted wastewater directly to waters of the state. The proposed regional sewer district will generally encompass an area of Lewis Township including the unincorporated community of Coalmont. During the public meeting, the Clay County Board of Commissioners and their engineering consultant will discuss the need for the proposed sewer district and the anticipated project to achieve compliance with the Agreed Order with IDEM.
There will be the opportunity for questions and comments from the public at this meeting.
