BRAZIL – The Veregy company gave a follow-up report  on how the city can reduce its own electric bill during Monday’s meeting of the Brazil City Council.

It has suggested using LED lights and solar power as two ways the city can reduce the amount of electricity used at the Wastewater Treatment Plant and in other locations owned by the city.

In other business:

The Council revised the city code concerning the Board of Zoning Appeals to bring it into compliance with changes in state laws.

The Council also adopted Indiana House Enrolled Act 1167. Changes to Indiana law requires “live transmissions” and copies of those transmissions be provided to the public.

However, do not expect such transmissions of the City Council, Board of Public Works and Safety or other city government bodies that meet in City Hall in the near future, for they are exempt under HEA 1167.

The revised House Enrolled Act also exempts school boards from having to broadcast or archive broadcasts of those meetings.

HEA1167 does not affect the state’s “sunshine law” which gives public notice of meetings and access to local governmental meetings.
