Man faces multiple charges after avoiding a license plate infraction

TERRE HAUTE – A Terre Haute man faces multiple charges after failing to cooperate with law enforcement during a traffic stop for a license plate infraction on June 26.

A deputy stopped a vehicle driven by Christopher Nelson, 40, of Terre Haute on Azalia Avenue in Terre Haute. Nelson refused to cooperate and drove off.

The deputy stopped pursuit when the deputy saw a woman by the road, apparently in pain.

He stopped to help her  She said Nelson had pushed her out of a moving vehicle, resulting in her injuries.

Nelson was arrested on July 6 and faces charges of:

  • Resisting law enforcement (using a vehicle)
    • A level 6 felony
  • Driving while suspended (operation of vehicle results in bodily injury)
    • A level 6 felony
  • Battery resulting in bodily injury
    • A class A misdemeanor
  • Criminal recklessness
    • A class B misdemeanor
  • Reckless driving
    • A class C misdemeanor

Nelson is scheduled next for for a hearing in Vigo County Superior Court 1 on Tuesday, July 11 at 10 a.m.
