Nearly one million dollars in investment is coming to Brazil, if approved by the City Council.

On Wednesday, the Redevelopment Commission voted unanimously to approve Real and Personal Property Tax abatements for investment by Timberland Lumber Company and Emmert Properties.

Emmert Properties received tentative approval of $250,000 in tax abatement for real estate the companies are acquiring next to Timberland’s factory. A 12,000 square-foot pole barn is planned for the property.

Timberland also received tentative personal property tax abatement of  $701,000 for equipment to build wall panels in the pole barn.

The two companies were represented by Brad Emmert and Scott Craig, an attorney who wrote the tax abatement proposals for the companies.

The companies plan to hire six to 10 additional employees. Timberland anticipates an annual payroll of $3 million.

Redevelopment Commissioners Tom Ames and Vickie Mace spoke in favor of the investment.

Ames said he is always glad to see new investment come into the county but it is also good when existing companies increase their investment.

Mace said, “Every time I drive by there I can tell you are growing. It looks really nice out there.”

Emmert said the company will have about $3 million in annual payroll.
