From the Brazil Police Department:
There have been several inquiries recently regarding the legal operation of golf carts and side-by-sides (Off Road Vehicles) on City streets.
In 2019, the City of Brazil passed Ordinance 5-2019 regulating the operation of golf carts and ORVs within the corporate limits of the City of Brazil.
To highlight a few points in the Ordinance that will hopefully answer a few commonly asked questions, please review the following carefully:
1. All golf carts and/or ORVs must be registered annually with the City of Brazil ($5).
2. Golf Carts and ORVs are NOT to be operated on the highways (National Avenue / Forest Avenue). It is permitted to cross the highway, but not operate down it.
3. The operator of a golf cart or an ORV must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to provide proof of insurance.
4. Golf Carts and ORVs must display on the back a “slow moving vehicle sign”.
5. No golf carts or ORV may be operated one half hour before sunset and one half hour after sunrise, unless the vehicle is equipped with two (2) working headlights and two (2) working tail lights.
6. Golf Carts and ORVs shall comply with all traffic laws.
Please note this list is not comprehensive, and only summarizes Ordinance 5-2019.
