TERRE HAUTE, Indiana (DLC Media) – The Terre Haute City Council expressed its opposition to the construction of a water pipeline that could be responsible for tens of millions of gallons from the Vigo County aquafers and Wabash River. The water is being used to aid Boone County in its already approved and running LEAP Innovation District. The pipeline could have significant negative effects on the surrounding Wabash Valley area and further south.
Council Person Todd Nation brought the vote to attention in Thursday’s City Council meeting citing a lack of current research and public outcry from the community affected. The vote was 8-1 in favor of opposing the pipeline. Terre Haute now joins other communities such as Lafayette and other northern cities and counties to oppose the issue.
