Vigo County, In. – This weekend 89 Firefighters who died while performing their duties in 2023 will be honored during the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial weekend in Emmitsburg, Maryland. The events begin with a candlelight service Saturday Evening hosted by St. Louis Fire Captain Garon Mosby.  Sunday Morning at 10am a second memorial service will be held.  One of the fallen firefighters to be honored will be Prairieton Fire Chief David Phelps who passed away at the scene of a structure fire in November.  Phelps was a 59-year veteran of the volunteer fire department.
