Father Arrested After 6 Year Old Sets House On Fire With A Sparkler

Terre Haute, In. – After a fire at 206 Kent Avenue on May 27th. The Terre Haute Police Department found that a 6-year-old had started the fire by accidentally dropping a lighted sparkler on a pile of clothing. The 10-year-old who was watching the 6 year old and other younger children called the police after the fire was started. Two of the children were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.  While the police were still at the scene Rush Shackelford and Brande Thompson, the parents of the children, arrived. They told police they had left the children alone while they went to get groceries.  During the investigation the parents admitted they went to the Banks of The Wabash Festival before going to a liquor store begore they got a call from the child telling them about the fire. Following the investigation, Rush Shackelford was arrested on June 18 for Neglect of a Dependent.
