Terre Haute, In. – The Allen Memorial Planetarium on the campus of Terre Haute South High School has a new name and new technology Thanks to a gift from the Gibson Family Foundation. The Planetarium will be known as the Gibson Allen Memorial Planetarium. The gift from the Gibson Family Foundation through the Vigo County Education Foundation will allow the Planetarium to continue operation. The Planetarium was first opened in 1974 and the old technology was outdated and barely functional. The new technology is a projector style display system which is able to zoom in and out of space and allows the planetarium to show more than stars and constellations by going deeper into space in higher detail. The planetarium will continue to be a destination for school field trips. In addition, the general public will be able to see star programs that will be conducted quarterly.
