Terre Haute Plans To Burn Accumulated Storm Debris

Terre Haute, In. – The city of Terre Haute will be disposing of storm damage debris in an open controlled burn.  Mayor Sakbun says the burn will begin today near the Industrial Park in the southern part of the county.  A decade of storm debris has been collected and taken to the burn site.  Burning is the most economical way of disposing of the debris, but it does require coordination with IDEM.  The Terre Haute Wastewater Utility will oversee the burn and fire fighting equipment will be on site if needed.  If this burn goes well more storm debris will be burned at two other sites.
