
Terre Haute, In. – Tuesday evening, at the Vigo County History Center, the Terre Haure Human Relations Committee announce the names of 12 people who will appear on Black History Month Banners displayed on downtown streets in February. Mayor Brandon Sakbun had the pleasure of announcing the honorees. They are Charles E. Brown Educator, African American Cultural Center director, Winton D. Jones Pharmacist, mentor, Evangeline Harris Merriweather Educator, author, vocalist, James Porter Professional boxer, coach, Jane Dabney Shackelford Teacher, author, historian, Mark Blade Pastor, county councilman, state senator, Melvin L. Burks CEO, coach, mentor, Michael Phillips Mentor, coach, community leader and Bill Reed Terre Haute’s first Black fire chief the Mayor’s Choice.
