TERRE HAUTE – Terre Haute Firefighter Justin Tallman was enjoying a getaway with friends in New Orleans when his vacation was abruptly interrupted.

Tallman was watching the Bacchus Parade when gunfire rang out close by. He sprang from his seat and met terrified and injured victims in the street.

Tallman found a 22-year-old female with a gunshot wound to her leg. He, and another paramedic that he met while vacationing, rendered care by applying a tourniquet above the wound, possibly saving her life.

They stayed with the victim until care arrived (as seen in this picture posted by cbsnews.com. Tallman kneeling in the white shirt).
