NEW YORK — Al Jaffee, Mad magazine’s award-winning cartoonist, passed away Monday in his Manhattan apartment. He was 102 years old

He designed the “ fold in” when other magazines had their fold outs. Mad’s fold in always led the reader to a surprising and humorous cartoon.

He was also responsible for Mad’s “Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions.”

The magazine poked fun at everything and always featured the “What? Me Worry” kid Alfred E. Newman, on the cover. The magazine never accepted advertising but poked fun at popular ads in other magazines.

Jaffee had retired at age 99.
