BRAZIL – Air conditioning in Northview High School and North Clay Middle School “are the biggest (equipment) issues in the corporation,” said Aron Hammond at Thursday’s meeting of the Clay Community Schools Board of Education meeting Thursday night. Hammond is director of extended services for Clay Community Schools.

The Northview chiller is 18 years old and needs to be replaced. It will be replaced with a new unit and so will the chiller at North Clay Middle School, as soon as possible, Hammond said.

A chiller is an integral part of a large building’s air conditioning system. It transfers heat and keeps the building cool.

During the discussion about chillers, Superintendent Jeff Fritz praised work that has been done at GOALS Academy and at an area of Northview High School that have been remodeled.

Fritz also recognized the passing of Bill Price, a former principal at Van Buren High School.

“He was always extremely gracious to me,” Fritz said of his long time friend.

He also gave a shout out to the Northview High School Choir and Winter Guard for statewide accomplishments this past year.

Mr. Fritz will be DLC Media’s guest on Focus on the Community in the near future. The program airs Saturday and Sunday mornings on WAMB and all DLC Media radio stations in the Wabash Valley. Past programs can also be listened to by clicking on the link on the wambradio.com web page and other DLC Media stations.

The board approved an agreement between Clay Community Schools and Indiana State University to incorporate students training to become counselors into the CCS counseling staff.

The superintendent, who is in his last month before retirement, praised the “partnership (that will) grow the number of (school) counselors,” which is a great need, he said.

School Trustee Ryan Keller praised the corporation’s school police force, saying he has heard parents say they feel “safer” with the new police force, though they felt safe in the past as well.

Members of the school board of trustees pointed out this is Teacher Appreciation Week and they praised the teachers on the staff of Clay Community Schools.

Amy Burke-Adams said the high quality of Clay Community Schools is why teachers come here and stay through their careers.

The next meeting of the school board is set for 7 p.m., June 8 in the corporation office on South Forest Avenue.
