Motorcycle rider charged with reckless driving

On 7/11/23 at approximately 11:13 p.m. THPD Uniformed Officers observed a male driving a motorcycle recklessly near the intersection of N 13th St and Elm St. The suspect was traveling at speeds between thirty miles per hour and fifty miles per hour, disregarding stop signs and driving on the Heritage Bike Trail itself. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop and the suspect fled from officers on the bike trail by driving through a wooded area to the north. Assisting officers, including THPD K9, arrived in the area, and located the motorcycle in the 2100 block of Locust St. Officers were then able to determine a possible location for the suspect at a nearby residence.

The homeowners were familiar with the possible suspect and granted consent for officers to search the residence. Officers gave multiple orders and commands for the suspect to exit the residence however the suspect refused. THPD K9 Pelkes was utilized for the search and he apprehended the suspect who was in a second floor closet hiding behind a false wall.

John C. Hoover, 51, of Terre Haute was placed under arrest for Reckless Driving, Resisting Law Enforcement and Operating a Vehicle as a Habitual Traffic Violator.
