Vigo County, In. – The Clear Creek Welcome center just east of the Indiana/Illinois state line on I-70 is still in the process of being completely rebuilt with a cost of approximately $53.4 million.  INDOT recently released a video on Facebook saying a lot of progress has been made in recent months.  “Travelers will be provided a new, clean, and safe area to rest while they travel into Indiana,” Amenities will include a walking path, a zipline area for children to play, dog park and Indiana Motor Speedway memorabilia, including a Borg-Warner trophy copy, the hardware awarded to Indy 500 champs. There will also be more parking for semi tractor trailers than is available at most rest stops. An added benefit is that West Terre Haute water and sewer will reap the rewards of a water line getting extended to the welcome center, County Commissioner Chris Switzer said in 2023. The state funded the upgrade at about $15 million, and Switzer said this week that figure is not part of the $53 million for the building.
