Terre Haute, In. – just before 3am Friday Terre Haute Police Officers were dispatched to reports of shots fired in the area of South Center and Farrington Streets. As the officers arrived the observed a man running north toward 9 ½ and Poplar and a witness informed the person running had a gun. The officers chased the individual on foot and finally stopped him with a taser. During the foot pursuit the suspect discarded a handgun which was recovered. The suspect was identified as 29-year-old Demetrius D. Mitchell of Terre Haute. Mitchell was arrested and charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon, Possession of Marijuana, and Resisting Law Enforcement. The police believe the incident originally occurred in the area of South 9th and Oak Streets. If anyone has any information, they are urged to contact the Terre Hute Police Department.
