STATEWIDE–Indiana hasn’t been getting a lot of rain lately. That is a trend that’s going to continue this week.
“This is our typical dry time of year, but the longer that we go will prolong these drought conditions,” said Aaron Updike, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.
Updike says the extended dry period could extend anywhere from the next 10 to 14 days. Many counties in Indiana are also under burn bans.
“Make sure you don’t have metal dragging across the ground that can lead to sparks. You’ll want to make sure you properly dispose of cigarette butts too because of a spark does hit grass then it could lead to wildfire spread,” said Updike.
One thing that concerns Updike is the wind gusts much of Indiana could get on Tuesday where they could reach roughly 25 miles per hour.
“That leads to a higher threat of wildfire spread in that case,” said Updike.
Updike says temperatures will be in the 60s and 70s all throughout the state during the week, but some areas might see some frost Wednesday night.
