Bad Weather Moves In

A Winter weather advisory is in effect from 1 pm Wednesday afternoon to 4 amThursday

Several storms will move through the state this week, with the biggest impact expected Wednesday due to the possibility of snow and freezing rain.

“If you’re in Hamilton or Boone County or northern Marion County, there’s more of a concern for freezing rain,” said Mike Koch, a forecaster at the National Weather Service in Indianapolis. “There’s still a chance we could see some freezing rain in southern Marion County.”

The first of three storms is here today, bringing steady, wet snow to southern Indiana. If you’re heading toward Cincinnati or Louisville, expect slower travel.

“In the Indianapolis area, all we’re expecting is mainly some flurries and just a small chance of snow,” said Koch. “Accumulating snow will be relegated to areas south of Bloomington and Rushville.”

Wednesday’s rain and snow are expected between 2 and 3 in the afternoon.

“Somewhere around the 70 corridor and north, it looks like a mix of freezing rain and snow, with freezing rain more likely the closer you are to Interstate 70.”

Koch says a third storm is expected Saturday into Sunday, but it’s unclear whether it will bring rain or snow. Forecasters are still reviewing the data.
