Terre Haute, In. – Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun says moving the Terre Haute Transit System to a free fare system has increased ridership by 52.5%. In a recent social media post the mayor posted a graph showing the dramantic ridership increase between 2022 and January 2025. The mayor says being able to ride the buses for free has helped reduce barriers for residents while improving transit efficiency and giving people better access to jobs, healthcare and other daily needs. The mayor went on to say they have some other goals for this year like improving the bus stops. The city is working with several student groups at Indiana State University in creating marketing materials and a promotional campaign for the bus system.
