VIGO COUNTY, Ind. – An Edgar County, Illinois man has been sentenced to 25 years for his part in the robbery of a disabled Vietnam War veteran.
In March Dereck Worthington entered a guilty plea to robbery resulting in bodily injury.
Charges of attempted murder and criminal confinement were dropped as part of a plea deal that the victim agreed to in order to avoid trial.
Worthington testified that his co-defendant, Jon Marshall, owed him money and the two allegedly planned to rob Marshall’s step-father.
During the robbery, they allegedly cut the line to the victim’s oxygen tank and taped him to a chair. It took him several hours to work himself free.
