ROANOKE, Ind. – The General Motors plant near Fort Wayne is getting a 24-million-dollar upgrade.
G-M is installing new conveyor belts and tooling at its plant in Roanoke so it can increase capacity. GM says that they currently make over 1,000 trucks daily ( see below). The plant makes Chevy Silverado and G-M-C Sierra pickups, including new crew-cab models which debuted last year. G-M says demand for the trucks is up 20-percent.
C-E-O Mary Barra traveled to the factory in Roanoke to announce the plans in person. The automaker expects the upgrade to be complete by midsummer.
G-M has poured more than a billion dollars into the Roanoke plant over the last four years.
