SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind – Early Friday morning (5/31/19) between midnight and 8:00 a.m., a wooden spool of copper wire, totaling approximately 1000 feet, was taken from the railroad tracks on State Road 54 just west of the Greene/Sullivan county line (nearest intersection road is CR 900 East in Sullivan County).

The wooden spool has the name “Okonite” on it. The wire has a black coating with a white wrap and is approximately 1 to 1 ½ inches in diameter. The wooden spool weighs approximately 2,000 pounds and its estimated value is $8,000.

Police say that evidence at the scene shows that the suspect backed up to the railroad tracks, on the north side of State Road 54, tying a chain to the wooden spool of copper wire and dragging it out onto State Road 54.  Gouge marks in the roadway show the spool was dragged east on State Road 54 where it appears the wooden spool was then loaded onto a trailer. The suspect then continued east on State Road 54 towards Linton.
