WASHINGTON, D.C.–You are paying too much for many of your prescriptions. Both Republicans and Democrats agree on that point. Congressman Andre Carson (D-Ind.) said the House and Senate should keep up its efforts to lower the cost of prescription drugs.

“In the wealthiest nation in the world…no one should have to face these barriers to affordable, quality health care,” said Carson, in a Tuesday speech on the House floor.

He said House Democrats have passed the Strengthening Health Care and Lowering Prescription Drug Costs Act (HR 987), and the Orange Book Transparency Act of 2019 (HR 1503). Carson said his hope is that the Senate will act on the bills.

“Both…can lower the cost of prescription drugs by helping to bring a greater number of generic drugs to market,” said Carson.

Republicans also have a plan that involves weaning American drug companies off the higher prices that Americans pay, versus people from Canada and Germany, who often pay much lower prices. That plan is supported by U.S. Health and Human Services Sec. Alex Azar.

The plan being pushed by Carson would speed up the process for getting generic drugs to the market, so you can pay less, quicker.
