INDIANAPOLIS — The Adjutant General of the Indiana National Guard, Maj. Gen. Courtney Carr, is retiring upon the recommendation of Gov. Eric Holcomb.
“Upon my recommendation, Maj. Gen. Carr has announced his decision to retire,” Gov. Holcomb said Monday. “I received his resignation letter Saturday and I thanked him for his service to our state and country.”
In a statement to members of the Indiana National Guard, Carr said:
While it has been an honor to lead one of the nation’s premier National Guards, I will be resigning as your Adjutant General effective 16 August 2019 pending my retirement.
The Indiana National Guard mission will not be interrupted, as I know each of you will continue to carry the torch with professionalism and honor.
Carr is the subject of a lawsuit filed by a former military contractor.
Shari McLaughlin accuses Carr of a launching a vendetta against her after she reported his affair to military oversight.
McLaughlin says that she had to quit her job because of harassment. When she found a job with a different contractor, McLaughlin says Carr used his power and influence to have her fired.
Carr has served as Adjutant General since 2015.
His resignation is effective Friday, Aug. 16.
Brig. Gen. Timothy Winslow will serve as interim Adjutant General.
