VIGO COUNTY, Ind. – Vigo County officials have unveiled preliminary plans for a new Vigo County Jail.

The plans call for a sheriff’s office and jail.

There will be two cell blocks, both with two levels.

Each cell block will have several pods.

Officials say that it is important that there is room to grow because there are many inmates being housed at other jails around the state and if all of those are brought back that would fill the new jail to 80 percent capacity.

Sheriff John Plasse told News 10 that the county may need to buy a few more vans to transport inmates to court but he said that the over all cost will be less than what the county is paying to house and transport inmates in and out of other counties.
