TERRE HAUTE, Ind.  – Work continues on Hulman Center in downtown Terre Haute.

The facility built in 1973 has seen some minor updates over the years but this is the first major and complete renovation.

Officials say that the only thing that will be untouched is the steel frame structure.

On Wednesday, area reporters were invited to take a tour and see the progress being made.

The Director of Capital Planning and Improvements Bryan Duncan, said that seating in the upper bowl is being replaced along with the outside skin of the building.

Changes are being made to the main entrance that will enlarge it.

There are going to be new concession areas, new and larger restroom facilities along with new heating and air conditioning.

Project leaders say the project is almost at the halfway point.

Work is expected to be wrapped up by the end of 2020.

This year’s basketball season will take place in Hulman Center while construction continues.

Total seating will be about 10,000 which will be about 200 less than before due to some of the changes.
