NATIONWIDE — The United States Postal Service is issuing a stamp to honor the sacrifices of the men and women who serve in the military.

On October 4 the Purple Heart Medal Forever Stamp will be released.

The President awards the Purple Heart to members of the U.S. military that have been wounded or killed in action.

The medal is the oldest military decoration in the world that’s still used, and was the first award made available to a common soldier.

The Purple Heart Medal 2019 stamp is designed with a purple border to match the purple of the medal and the ribbon.

The stamp will be issued as a Forever stamp, and will come in sheets of 20.

Ira Wexler photographed the medal, while Bryan Buefrene designed the stamp, and William J. Gicker served as the art director.

You can purchase the stamp online at the United States Postal Service website, or at your local post office.
