INDIANA -A person from Indiana is among 21 people in the U.S. who got sick from salmonella . The Centers for Disease Control believes the cause of the outbreak may be pet turtles.

Turtles can carry Salmonella germs in their droppings while appearing healthy and clean, says the CDC. These germs can easily spread to their bodies, tank water, and habitats. People can get sick after they touch a turtle or anything in their habitats.

The CDC reminds you to wash your hands after having contact with turtles, not to let them roam in the kitchen, and not to kiss or snuggle them.
