VIGO COUNTY, Ind. – Vigo County School Corporation officials held their regular meeting and a public hearing to discuss several things including budget cuts Monday.

A referendum on today’s ballot seeking approval of a $7 million annual property tax hike would help officials determine when cuts need to be made.

The corporation is trying to maintain their cash balance.

Declining enrollment has meant less money from the state.

Some changes would likely come in the form of changes to alternative education, cuts in the transportation budget and the closing of some schools that are underutilized due to small enrollments.

Officials have said in the past if the referendum does not pass, then cuts will need to be deeper and made more quickly.

At Monday nights meetings no action was taken by the board, but changes are expected before the end of the year.
