VIGO COUNTY, Ind – A request by the ACLU of Indiana to have a status hearing over the Vigo County Jail population has been dropped.

A reporting error by Vigo County on jail inmate counts showed the jail at one point with a population of 359 inmates in September.

County officials now say that the number was inaccurate.

The population was actually 326.

Vigo County had 33 inmates housed in other counties and they were mistakenly included in the jail population.

Since the mistake was discovered the request for a hearing has been dropped.

The groundbreaking for the new Vigo County Jail is set for early December with facility set to open in December 2021.
