TERRE HAUTE, Ind – It’s now up to the Terre Haute City Council whether chickens will be allowed in the city limits.
On Tuesday the Chicken Ordinance Exploratory Committee held their second meeting and forwarded recommendations to the Terre Haute City Council for a proposed ordinance that would allow city residents to own chickens.
The recommendations would cap the total number of chickens a resident could own at eight, you would have to have a license from the city, and there are requirements on where a coup could be located and how big it must be.
The committee recommended that those not in compliance with the rules and those not taking proper care of their chickens be ticketed but there were no recommendations on what the fines should be.
The earliest City Council could consider a proposed ordinance would be at its December 5th meeting.
